NASA-STD-8739.1A - Polymeric Inspection of Electronic Assemblies

Picture
NASA-STD-8739.1A – Polymeric Application on Electronic Assemblies is NASA’s workmanship standard for polymeric applications for flight hardware and critical ground-support equipment. This includes staking, conformal coating, encapsulation, and bonding.

The curriculum uses a slide presentation, a student workbook, practical exercises, and an exam. Practical exercises include demonstrating inspection techniques for polymeric material and demonstration of students’ competency for using these techniques in a manner that produces hardware that meets the requirements of the standard.

This course is a prerequisite for NASA-STD-8739.1A inspector certification.

Vision screening is a prerequisite per NASA-STD-8739.6.

Topics
  • Conformal coating of PWAs
  • Components requiring staking
  • Bonding of components
  • Encapsulation of components and connectors
  • Inspection methodology

Certification Levels
  • Inspector – This level of training is applicable only to those who will be performing inspections of polymerics applications to hardware fabricated to the NASA-STD-8739.1A.

The inspection-only course is only available to inspectors. For Operator, Operator/Inspector Dual Cert, or Supplier Level B Instructor training levels, refer to the full NASA-STD-8739.1A Applications course.

Course Length
Initial Training/Retraining: 8 Hours / 1 Day

Implementation Requirements
Inspectors, Operators, and Instructors are bound to the requirements of the NASA-STD-8739.6. Click Here to review the NASA-STD-8739.6 document.
