IPC/WHMA A-620 - Acceptability of Cable and Wire Harness Assemblies

Picture
IPC/WHMA-A-620 – Acceptability of Cable and Wire Harness Assemblies is the industry standard for assessment and inspection of cables, crimps, wires, and harnesses.

This course covers inspection methodology and requirements of the IPC/WHMA-A-620. This course is split up into 8 modules:
  • Module 1: Introduction/IPC Policies & Procedures
  • Module 2: Crimp Terminations
  • Module 3: Soldered Terminations
  • Module 4: Connectorization/Potting
  • Module 5: Splices
  • Module 6: Marking/Securing/Shielding/Protection
  • Module 7: Coax/Biaxial Cables
  • Module 8: Solderless Wire Wrap

Each module is followed by an exam period where the student’s ability to navigate and exercise the document is challenged. The IPC-A-620 training course does not incorporate fabrication techniques.

After a successful course completion, the student will be certified to work under contracts requiring IPC-A-620 commercial hardware Class 1, Class 2, and Class 3 (3 day - lecture only).  There are an additional 5 day hands-on training.

Certification is portable and is valid for two years. The certificate received by the student is a valid certificate which is traceable to a Master IPC Trainer.

Before certification expires, the student must either return for a retraining class or challenge test.

Topics
  • Cable and wire dimensioning, tolerances and preparation
  • Crimp terminations:
  • Stamped and formed contacts
  • Machined contacts
