IPC A-600 - Acceptability of Printed Boards

Picture
IPC-A-600– Acceptability of Printed Boards is the industry standard set of requirements for bare Printed Wiring Boards (PWBs).

This course covers inspection methodology and requirements of the IPC-A-600. This course is split up into 4 modules:

  • Module 1: Introduction
  • Module 2: Externally-Observable Characteristics
  • Module 3: Internally-Observable Characteristics
  • Module 4: Miscellaneous Requirements

Each module is followed by an exam period where the student’s ability to navigate and exercise the document is challenged. The IPC-A-600 training course does not incorporate fabrication techniques.

After a successful course completion, the student will be certified to work under contracts requiring IPC-A-600 commercial hardware Class 1, Class 2, and Class 3.

Certification is portable and is valid for two years. The certificate received by the student is a valid certificate which is traceable to a Master IPC Trainer.

Before certification expires, the student must either return for a retraining class or challenge test.

Topics
  • Printed board product classifications and acceptance criteria
  • Base material surface and subsurface conditions such as measling/crazing
  • Solder resist coverage over conductors and registration to lands
  • Conductor width and spacing and annular ring requirements
  • Dielectric material criteria for etchback, voids, and resin recession
  • Plated-through hole requirements for copper plating thickness, voids, nodules and cracks
  • Acceptance criteria for flexible, rigid-flex and metal core printed boards

Training Levels
  • Certified IPC Specialist (CIS)

This level of training is designed for students who will be exercising the IPC-A-600H. Primarily this applies to Operators, Inspectors, and Technicians. However, it may also apply to Management, Engineers, Purchasing, Auditors, or any other position which may incorporate the document.

Course Length
  • Initial Certification: 24 Hours / 3 Days
  • Recertification: 24 Hours / 3 Days

Challenge Testing: Available only for CIS upon demand. Please contact our registrar to schedule a challenge test.
